What's Rotary
|
In the Heart of Morris Rotary is the desire
"to serve
and benefit the community of which it is a part."
The Rotary Club represents
a cross-section of the community by taking one member of each occupational
classification. The Morris club, chartered on July 1, 1915, was the first small
town Rotary Club in the world. The main emphasis of the members is to serve
and benefit the community of which it is a part. Club work can be heartwarming
and fun as the fellowship of working to serve others benefits all. The club is
a big part of Morris through its many projects and donations to local
charities.
Service
Projects
Morris Rotary Club has been a
leader in contributing financially, and volunteering man-hours, to a variety of
local charitable organizations. Support has been given to the Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, Illinois Valley Industries, M.A.L.S., Eye-Care, Operation St. Nick and
No Tolerance Task Force. Members have planted trees in Chapin Park, painted and
landscaped Narvick House, and assisted We-Care at food distribution centers.
Many Morris Rotarians have been host families for Foreign Exchange Students and
have planned and hosted visits for Adult Cultural/Education
Groups.
Recognition of
Education
A Scholarship Fund,
established in 1990, provides financial assistance to local high school
graduating seniors in their pursuit of higher education. Annually, the club
hosts the members of Morris High School's National Honor Society at a dinner and
presents their membership pins.
Fundraising
Efforts
The Morris Rotary Club
through various events raises funds each year with all net proceeds going
directly to charities and the community. This is achieved by members
volunteering their time to the administration of the organization. As examples,
members conduct a community-wide Christmas Greenery Sale and man a dessert stand
during the area's annual Corn Festival. Individual members and their families
also make monetary contributions to the club.
