Morris Rotary Club recently presented We Care of Grundy County, Inc., with a check for over $16,000 as a result of the combined efforts of these two organizations to host Rotary's annual Ball in the Fall last Nov 10.

More than 228 people attended the event this year and enjoyed an evening of great food at Jennifer's Garden, entertainment by the Silhouettes and a live and silent auction.

“We were very pleased with the attendance and participation in our annual event. said Morris Rotary's President Andrea Buckman. “We Care staff and Board worked hard to help make this a successful event and the community responded to the message both of our organizations promoted - making Grundy County a better place to live, especially for those in the greatest need.”

“We Care was honored by Rotary's request to participate in the Ball in the Fall,” said Denise Gaska, We Care's executive director. “We worked well together and had a lot of fun creating a beautiful event that benefited two very worthy causes.”

Rotary and We Care plan to work together on the 2008 Ball in the Fall. Look for details about date and location in the future.

The Ball in the Fall appears to have been another success again this year.  The Ball was held on November 10, 2007, at Jennifer’s Garden in Morris.  The event collected about $35,000 that evening.  “This year over 235 guests attended, including eighteen members from the Morris Rotary Club; last year there were 235 guests.

The silent auction had 87 items displayed in three different sections – red, white and green tables.            The live auction featured 28 items.  A private sunset cruise on Lake Michigan was awarded for $2,400.  The “martini bar” was auctioned for $700, while a vacation trip to Cancun, Mexico went for $2,000.  A Lake Geneva dinner cruise for four brought in $850 in spirited bidding.

Dinner consisted of filet mignon combined with grouper filet, twice baked potatoes and vegetable medley.  A chocolate fountain was served for the desert.

During the “Fund-An-Item” bidding frenzy, We CARE raised over $6,000 to start a new dental program for senior citizens who don’t have dental insurance.

The Silhouettes group entertained guests after dinner.  The group is from the Kankakee area and sings classic rock and more.

This annual event was held at Jennifer’s Garden on Saturday and was hosted by the Rotary Club of Morris and the Grundy County We Care.  It started at 5:00 P.M. for the silent auction, with dinner at 7:00 P.M.  The Silhouettes played until midnight.
